Thinking like global citizens, considering global issues based on a deep understanding of diverse values and worldviews, and with a genuine interest and ability to solve ambiguous and complex real-world problems that impact human and environmental sustainability.
Limited Evidence
  • Learners have primarily local perspectives of the world
  • Learners have difficulty understanding/accepting different perspectives to their own (political, economic, religious)
  • Learners have a low awareness of environmental issues and see it as someone else's problem
  • Learners have a low level of comfort in working with real world issues
  • Learners prefer tasks that are framed and structured for them- not open-ended or ambiguous
Emerging
  • Learners start to explore or show interest in global issues - cause and consequence
  • Learners show awareness of their own identities and differences to other cultures and can accept other ways of thinking with guidance
  • Learners recognise how each person's actions impacts on the environment but their interest lies at the local level
  • Learners can design solutions to this with guidance
  • Learners are developing comfort in tackling open-ended, real-world challenges with support
Developing
  • Learners show an interest in actively engaging with world problems/issues (social justice, sustainability)
  • Learners develop a sense of individual and cultural identities and respect other world views
  • Learners have a good appreciation of the importance of the environment on our survival in the world and starting to build these concepts into their inquiry and solutions
  • Learners can work with the ambiguity of real world challenges
  • Learners have a moderate level of comfort with open-ended, real-world challenges, yet require support to get started with tasks
Accelerating
  • Learners think or take action individually/collectively on global issues e.g. inequities, injustices, interdependencies, and conflict
  • Learners genuinely care about the planet and its people
  • Learners have an open mind and curiosity about different cultures and world views
  • Learners are skilled at generating environmentally sustainable solutions that affect the planet and its inhabitants
  • Learners are interested in working on real world challenges with high levels of ambiguity and no pre-determined solution
Proficient
  • Learners actively engage in making a change/a difference as a global citizen
  • Learners use their understanding of their own and other’s cultures to consider global issues in relations to diverse values and worldviews
  • Learners have a strong view of environmental issues and their importance and infuse their perspectives to enact positive change
  • Learners show a high level of interest and comfort in addressing real-world problems, creating their own perspective of the issue
